When supply chains broke down in 2020, many people panicked. But for one determined woman and her family, the grocery shortages became a turning point. What started as a solution for a community in crisis quickly grew into one of Laurel County’s most inspiring small business success stories.

Founded by a husband-and-wife duo already immersed in wholesale produce, Cornett Farm Fresh began as a direct-to-consumer farmstand in the corner of a tobacco barn. With resilience, vision, and a whole lot of grit, they’ve expanded into a 15,000 square foot retail space in the heart of London, Kentucky—complete with a farm-to-table café, a bakery, a deli, and a locally sourced market.

Rhonda reflects on this journey with pride:

“We started in a barn. Then moved into a 4,000 square foot building. And now? We’re on the main traffic corridor with a completely renovated space that brings the farm experience straight to the people.”

Their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. Cornett Farm Fresh has earned titles like U.S. SBA Kentucky Women-Owned Business of the Year, the SBDC Pacesetter Award, and Laurel County’s Homecoming Business of the Year.

Much of this success has been fueled by the community and supported by local networks like the Women’s Business Center (WBC). Through the WBC’s events and conferences, Cornett’s leadership team accessed grant opportunities, forged new partnerships, and strengthened their strategy.

“The Women’s Business Center has allowed me to fellowship with female entrepreneurs who empower and support one another, creating an invaluable network of strong professional women.”

Cornett Farm Fresh is a now a grocery hub featuring local artisans, bakers, and growers. With homegrown produce, hand-cut meats, and handmade deli salads, the store is a tribute to Kentucky’s agricultural roots and entrepreneurial spirit.
